Me: Hi, I'm _________.
Non-Korean person: Are you Korean??
Me: ....... Yeah.""
Person: I LOVE Korean dramas and k-pop!
Then, I am excitedly told a list of all the favorite Korean actors, dramas, and singers. I'm not into the Korean dramas nor the k-pop... still don't know what she was raving about.
This reminds me of what I mentioned to someone earlier. When people learn that I'm Ethiopian they usually go "OHHHHH I KNOW AN ETHIOPIAN!" "DO YOU KNOW ______? THEY'RE ETHIOPIAN!" (I never do.) "MY CAB DRIVER WAS ETHIOPIAN!!" (Actual response.) And it can be slightly...not exciting to me, for the most part.
And yet, when I meet Filipinos/Japanese (or multiracial people with these ethnicities) I become that person and go on about who I know related to that culture and how much I appreciate it. I just feel excited to share information and experience and I realize that just might be what those other people are feeling.
Unfortunately, the really attractive half Japanese guy I met the other day was probably not impressed by me confessing I was in the Japanese club at my high school.

microaggressions: A white male co-worker said to me an African American woman, after a phone consultation with a client, “You should have talked to that client because she was black...of course you would have to use an accent because you don’t really sound black.” Hmm….I’ve actually wondered if I have a “white” or “black” sounding voice.

sashanako: My high school’s band director is retiring this week after directing the band for 23 years and helping us to maintain a 30 year streak of Superior ratings, something no other high school band has ever done before. I posted a very brief thank you (literally, I just wrote “thank you”) the other day. I’m going to write something more meaningful later because I’ve recently come to...
